Frequently asked questions

CCTV - How does infra red work on a CCTV camera

Infra red light isn't visible to the human eye but CCTV cameras switch to black and white as light levels fall and can film the IR light spectrum. This means that to the camera its like shining a torch. IR has to bounce off something but providing there is a hard surface to reflect the infra red your camera is able to see in the dark.

CCTV - HOW DO I PICK THE CORRECT CAMERA FOR MY APPLICATION?

Knowing which CCTV Camera to use for which application can be tricky. The majority of our cameras (not including the NPR cameras) can be used in most common scenarios. We would recommend fixed lens cameras as standard as you do not need to adjust the zoom and focus of these. If you do want to adjust the zoom and focus of a camera we would recommend the auto focus cameras as these cameras will automatically focus if installed on an SPRO system, you can even adjust the zoom and focus from your mobile phone. All of the external cameras we sell have IR built-in as standard so they will work with no light with differing ranges in IR distance depending on the camera model.

CCTV - CAN I VIEW MY CAMERA’S FROM SMART PHONE?

With the Hik-connect app you can connect to any of our recorders as long as there’s a network connection on the device, I.e a home or business router in place. Hik-connect is available on both Apple and Android devices. If you want to connect from a PC or Mac then there is software available called ivms-4500.

ACCESS CONTROL - I WANT TO CONTROL SOME OF MY DOORS AT MY OFFICES, AND RESTRICT CERTAIN USERS IN SPECIFIC AREAS, IS THIS POSSIBLE THROUGH YOUR ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS?

You have a variety of options. Firstly, you have to decide how many doors you want to control initially, and how many you are likely to want to control in the future. You need to decide if you want to link a variety of sites together, so that a person can be given access rights to a variety of doors in a variety of areas.

There are a whole host of solutions, from a single door keypad, to 1000+ door, IP networked systems..
